Bangkok Port is located on the left side of the Chao Phraya River between km.+26.5 and km.+28.5 Klongtoey District, Bangkok. It is well connected with road and rail systems, which help transport of cargoes between the port and its hinterland fast and economical.
Inland Area Bangkok Port stands on a plot of land of about 941 acres. 344 acres are inside the Customs fence and are utilized for operaional purposes. It consists of transit sheds, warehouses, open storage areas, administration buildings and wharves. Another 51 acres are outside the customs fence, 29 acres for future expansion. 344 acres are for business use, 100 acres are slum area and 76 acres are for access roads.
Offshore Area The jurisdiction water under the Authoritys responsibility are about 66 kilometers long. The outer bar channel begins from the km.-18 downstream to the Phra Chulachomklao Fort at the km.0, which is 18 km.long. The inner bar channel begins from the Phra Chulachomklao Fort at the km.0 downstream to the Memorial Bridge at the km.48, which is 48 km.long.

The approach to the port is made through the bar channel, which is 18 kilometers long, 150 meters wide in the reaches and 250 meters wide in the bend. The channel is maintained to a depth of -8.5 meters M.S.L.
The depth of the river within the port area varies from 8.5 meters to 11 meters below M.S.L.
A pilot is compulsory for vessels sailing between the entrance of the Bangkok bar channel and the upper limit of the port in the River (km.+56 Rama VI Bridge). Pilotage is under the supervision of the Marine Department, a separate Department attached to the Ministry of Transport.

oncoming vessel has to communicate the port officers

3 days before arriving at the pilot station.
Information required from the vessel includes as follows :

Vessels name and nationality 2. Last port of departure

Estimated time of arrival at pilot station 4. Draft (fresh water) by feet or meters
5. Number of container/general cargo to be discharged
6. Number of dangerous cargo
7. Heavy lift required
8. Fresh water required
9. Number of passengers (land-ing and transit)

Time of dropping anchor at pilot station
To check the exact reaching time at the pilot station, while entering the Gulf of Thailand at the distance between 400-1,000 miles, the vessel has to communicate port officers again.
Upon
reaching the bar channel or at the distance 6-10 miles
from the pilot station, communication by telex is to
be changed to radio telephony (VHF) Call Sign Bangkok
Port Control.
VHF

- working channel 14: 156.700 MHz. so that the vessel
shall be informed of its mooring place.

Berthing
Due
to the draught limitation in its access channel, the
maximum size of vessels allowed to navigate through
the channel for berthing is 12,000 dwt, or 172 meters
in length or 8.2 meters in draught.
To ensure safety of lives, properties and goods kept in the port area, Bangkok Ports security staff in cooperation with the port police is on duty on around-the-clock basis. The port fire-fighting brigade consists of well-trained staff and sophisticated facilities, foam and water fire-fighting trucks. Precaution and measures to tackle with incidents are strictly exercised.
The
port has installed a CCTV system to keep watch over
the container terminals so that prompt action can be
taken to deal with incidents such as smuggling, accidents,
